Friday, the wife and I went to see The SpongeBob Squarepants movie. We had been anticipating its release for months, and bought advance tickets online. It was fortunate that we did, because the "regular" lines were quite long, while the "internet ticketing only" line had one other person in it. I just wish the theatre offered online concession preorders, because I missed all the previews waiting to get nachos.
The theatre was near capacity with lots of families and young kids. When the familiar theme song began, kids and adults alike all sang along.
The movie is 90 minutes of laughs in the traditional SpongeBob style, with some nice surprises thrown in. I hadn't seen the preview with David Hasselhoff, so that was a surprise to me. The movie ends with a spectacular musical number that had everyone rolling in the aisles.
A large round of applause, and scores of smiling kids rounded out the experience, and I remained happy the rest of the night. If you're into the sponge, certainly check out the movie, with or without the kids. But, the kids make it that much more fun.
