Day of Hope

The Church at Rock Creek, of which I am a member, is doing its part this weekend. I plan on helping as much as possible. Here is what they're saying/doing:

Thousands of people have lost so much as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Now is our time to do what we do best… "Take Jesus as He is to people as they are."

We have coordinated multiple ministry efforts to help displaced families now staying in Central Arkansas due to the hurricane and we will be taking supplies and manpower to the Gulf region. We are going to you, our church family, the public and partnering with The Point 94.1 FM to solicit help bringing specific needed supplies. We are also partnering with Affiliated Foods to help us get the supplies into the hands of people in need. Mike Grober is leading this missions effort for us as we go to the Gulf region and Doug Pruitt is leading the ministry effort to displaced families in Central Arkansas. Below you will find ways to be involved and supplies to bring this weekend.

Let's make an impact!

Senior Pastor

Nixon,

It's great that your church is doing this, it makes me feel proud to be an american (esp a southerner) when I see people come together to help their fellow man. I too feel good I went to walmart and bought some food and a case a water and dropped it off at one of the drop off points today. It just angers me to hear of stories of thugs taking pot shots at rescuers trying to help people. I hope and pray that other people work hard to help those in need too.

That is great that your church is doing this. Fort Chafee near us got 4000 refugees last night. A hint if you are donating clothes if you would take time to list sizes and gender of clothes on the boxes it helps greatly to the people sorting them out. Also I went through my kids videos and easily donated 20 vcr tapes since many have now been bought on dvd and have outgrown and it is good to give the kids something to do.

Indeed, it was sad to see the Sooners lose, but when you graduate 16 starters, including 10 to the NFL, and one Heisman Trophy winner, you're not going to be the same team. We've had some lean years before and made it through. Besides, who wins or loses football games is not my main concern right now, far more important things are taking priority.
