I went this morning to place a small memorial to the slain student at the nearby gas station. I was polite enough to go ahead and ask where would be an appropriate place to put it.
I was told I could not, due to it being a "corporate" property. I asked them to call a supervisor and make the request for me. I was then told that they would have to call someone else and get back to me.
I certainly hope they allow me this gesture, for they are the same "corporate" entity that is profit-driven enough and disregards employee and customer safety enough to be open at all hours in this crime-ridden neighborhood. Every other store around it has the good sense to close early.
The young girl, until recently, lived in this same neighborhood, and went to school a block away from where she was killed before moving. That is probably why they chose to go there, because they knew it would be open. Because it is the only thing open at all hours in this area, it is also where the negative elements choose to loiter and cause havoc.
Let Our Violence End.

Did they allow it? That is sad that they would not.
As of this afternoon, I've received no phone call. I'm going to assume they don't care enough to even respond to me.
I may just go leave it anyway this Saturday night. I don't know, I'm still upset over the whole ordeal.
